what is this renaissance~revolution?

so glad you asked.
scent of indie believes in complete freedom of independent arts from mainstream driven idealism. this is where the term renaissance-revolution comes from.

it is the belief that artistic movements should be led by the artist and supported by the people. not long ago, artists had the ability to influence society, governments and history itself. across europe and the world, art became the leading voice of the people.

as the centuries progressed, independence in art was lost in translation. the larger forms of social class viewed art as a nostalgia, a relic. in this century, art was diluted into an artifact or platinum money machine. Mainstream distribution companies produced countless artists in music without care or concern for the art form itself.

towards the late 20th century, artists began to turn away from the mainstream and seek shelter from the storm. not long after the digital age rushed in and once more, the mainstream flooded the globe.

and this was their last flood.
artists began to realize they had the ability to bypass the flood and reach out to fans across the world. the built websites, street teams and began localizing their art form.

still, the mainstream kept its grip -even on independent artists. digital media companies sprang up like dandelions offering artists a ‘new’ opportunity. iTunes, CD Baby, eMusic, Si-Mi, Napster, SnoCap, Burn Lounge, iLike even Windows Music oiled the gears of artistic ‘freedom’. Some proved to be nothing more than digital thieves, taking up to half of the artists’ wealth opportunity but also their pride, time, resources and creative spirit, giving them almost nothing in return.

in 2007, the concept of soi360 was born. it simply stated this: Independent Arts should again move society, be free to create, should keep its rights AND receive 100% recognition and compensation for the art form, without having to do all the work.

thus, by some measure, igniting a fire that once was a beacon to all artists and people around the world. the independent arts is more than just a weekend concept, it is an entity itself. it lives in all of us, everywhere. it is alive and will no longer take a back seat. It is strong and united. it is a renaissance of ideas and creative vision. it is a revolution, moving in all directions for all art forms, to change how ordinary people become extraordinary visionaries.

together, artist and fan stand. as one they speak with many voices, with heart, soul and body, they move society, lift spirits, change lives.

this is the renaissance-revolution at it core.
we hope you will believe with us.
